Safety and Security at Sports Grounds

IWI Associates has a unique combination of competencies in safety and security at sports grounds. IWI has:

Practical experience of leading the safety and security function in football, cricket and motor racing;

Operational capability as event safety officers (Level 4 Diplomas in Spectator Safety Management);

Policy and consultancy experience as advisors to organisations and governing bodies;

In depth expert knowledge as researchers, teachers and authors;

Recognised skills in undertaking capacity calculations for grounds ranging from non-league football to national stadia; and

New capability in helping sports grounds with their counter-terrorism preparations for the forthcoming Martyn’s Law.

IWI is thus distinctively capable of:

Providing an independent expert opinion on safety and security at sports grounds matters;

Undertaking safety and security audits and ‘mystery spectator’ visits;

Developing and reviewing Operations Manuals and other safety and security policies and procedures;

Designing and developing knowledge products and training materials;

Delivering bespoke seminars and table-top exercises for multi-agency partners;

Calculating the maximum safe capacity of sports grounds;

Resourcing the event safety officer function; and

Facilitating security vulnerability self-assessments using the Citadel risk management platform.

Citadel

IWI Associates is a licensed user of the Citadel risk management platform from arx Partners. Citadel is a more sophisticated solution than the security Vulnerability Self-Assessment Tool (VSAT) previously available on the Protect UK platform.

Citadel allows stadiums to benchmark their risk management maturity. In a series of facilitated workshops, the Citadel software poses questions and the IWI assessor helps the client stadium choose the most suitable answers from a multiple-choice list. The reasons why the answers have been chosen is also recorded. On the basis of its benchmarking against industry standards and best practice, the software reports the areas of low, medium and high-risk. The IWI assessor then helps the client stadium decide whether to tolerate the risks for the reasons recorded or whether there are some mitigations to be put in place to manage the risks down.

The client thus ends up with a digitised online risk register within which they can manage and monitor the risks coming out of the assessment.

In addition to the VSAT, IWI is able to offer an online version of its Safety and Security Audit, which works in the same way.
